Achieving a supremely soft hand-feel in jeans fabric without sacrificing durability or colorfastness is a key focus of GKL Textile's finishing innovation. Softness is engineered through a multi-stage process that begins with fiber selection; fine, long-staple cottons like Supima or Pima inherently contribute to a smoother, softer yarn. During spinning, combing removes shorter fibers, further enhancing the smoothness of the yarn. The most transformative steps occur in the finishing department. GKL utilizes a range of mechanical and chemical softeners. Mechanical processes like singeing burn off surface fuzz for a cleaner hand, while raising or napping brushes the surface to create a soft, peach-skin texture. Chemical softening is achieved through the application of silicone-based or polyethylene softeners during the finishing process, which lubricate the yarns, reducing fiber-to-fiber friction. Advanced enzymatic treatments, using cellulase enzymes, gently hydrolyze the surface of the cotton fibers, breaking down the tiny fibrils that cause stiffness, resulting in a permanently soft and smooth fabric with a desirable garment-washed appearance. For a major retail chain's "lived-in" jeans collection, GKL produced a 12-oz cotton-polyester blend fabric that underwent a multi-step bio-polishing and enzyme wash, followed by the application of a micro-silicone softener. This process yielded jeans that were exceptionally soft to the touch right off the shelf, eliminating the need for a prolonged break-in period and providing immediate comfort to the consumer. We offer a wide array of soft denim solutions. Contact us to discover the right option for your brand.
